The Best Grand Cayman Restaurants for Eating Dairy-Free

Eating at restaurants while visiting a small island is enough to rattle any allergy-sufferer’s stomach – both literally and metaphorically. But that wasn’t the case for me in the Cayman Islands. In fact, it felt like I had never even left Los Angeles. Despite having a dairy allergy that typically leaves me covered in hives after exposure, I found that most of the restaurants I went to were not only accommodating, but even had specially-marked menus for restrictive diets. So, after successfully eating my way through my beach vacation, here are my recommendations for the Best Grand Cayman Restaurants for Eating Dairy-Free*:

Tillie’s

Located in the Palm Heights hotel, Tillie’s is my favorite restaurant across all of the Cayman Islands. If you want to be treated to a meal that makes you feel as though you’re living a life of Hollywood glamour somewhere on a beach far, far away, this is the place. In fact, it’s a great restaurant if you’re wanting to go somewhere you can dress up!

I ate here twice, sharing multiple dishes with my partner, but my favorite by far were the Aguachile Ceviche, Coconut Shrimp and Seafood Pasta dishes!

Secret Tip

Paradise Pizza not only offers plenty of allergy-friendly bites, but it also has an amazing list of natural wines!

Pair one with your meal and enjoy a healthier and less hangover-inducing drink!

Located in the same hotel as Tillie’s, Paradise Pizza is one of Palm Heights’ more casual restaurants.

Offering classic Italian dishes like pasta, pizza and salads, but with a healthy twist, this spot is a Grand Cayman must try! While the restaurant isn’t inherently gluten free or vegan, most of its menu can be modified.

Yashinoki

Yashinoki is the third and final restaurant at Cayman’s wonderful Palm Heights hotel. And just as the others, it’s friendly for both dairy allergy sufferers and other restrictive diets.

It was pouring rain on the beach when my partner and I visited, and something about ordering a large mix of dishes with negronis ended up being the perfect pair for our small tropical storm evening.

Neighborhood: George Town

What I Ate: A large helping of nigiri, sashimi and rolls!

Located on the Marriott Beach Resort property, Ms. Piper’s is a great restaurant for pink enthusiasts, vintage lovers and allergy sufferers.

I went here for a traditional dinner service and for an alfresco lunch. Both experiences were wonderful, though I prefer lunch because you can also enjoy the pool if you need a break from all the beaches while dining in!

My favorite part about this restaurant was undoubtedly the menu. Not only is the menu modeled after a vintage style magazine, filled with extra goodies like crosswords and horoscopes, but it also uses Vegan, Vegetarian, Dairy-Free and Gluten-Free indicators next to each dish.

Neighborhood: George Town

What I Ate: Mediterranean Sandwich, Hummus, Potato-Crusted Branzinowith a side salad instead of potatoes, Choco & Choco a vegan version was available the night we dined in

Kaibo

Kaibo is probably the spot to eat at on the North Side of Grand Cayman, but it’s also a great dairy allergy-friendly location. Unfortunately, time prevented me from trying this restaurant directly, but it’s at the top of my list upon my return.

Their menu is marked with gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options. And even though they don’t notate just the dairy-free items directly, many locals told me that they’re extremely accommodating.

Neighborhood: North Side

What I Would Eat: Quinoa Bowl with Chicken, Kaibo Vegan Burger, Local Leaf Salad, Kaibo Homemade Dark chocolate and Orange Ice Cream

Bayside

Bayside was a new restaurant to Grand Cayman during our visit. The exterior of the restaurant didn’t look too flashy from its location in a mall next to a wine bar, but I’ve learned to never judge a book by its cover.

Not only was the level of service we received phenomenal (hello complimentary fermented pineapple shots!), but the interior design and allergy-friendly dishes were the perfect cozy send-off we needed for our last night on the island.

Like many of the other restaurants on this list, Bayside also includes special dietary notations on their menu.

VIVO Cafe Restaurant

VIVO Cafe Restaurant is a long-standing vegetarian haven in Grand Cayman’s West Bay.

While it does have a few dishes that cater to traditional diets, most of their menu is vegetarian only. And even better, a good portion is even gluten-free and vegan. By extension, this means you’ll have lots of dairy-free options to choose from by eating here!

Had VIVO’s location in the West Bay not been such a long drive from our accommodations on Grand Cayman’s North Side, I would have loved to try just about everything they offered – from their Pad Thai to their Vegetable Lasagne and from their Cauliflower Steak to their Fish Tacos!

Neighborhood: West Bay

What I Would Eat: Pad Thai, Cauliflower Steak, Vegetable Lasagne, Fish Tacos

Union Grill & Bar

I unfortunately ran out of time before I could try Union Grill & Bar on this trip to Cayman Islands, but even still, it’s easy to see why this is one of the best restaurants for eating dairy-free on Grand Cayman.

Firstly, the restaurant has a completely separate vegan menu that leaves no doubt as to what dishes are inherently dairy-free.

Second, if you’re not wanting something inherently vegan, the restaurant’s main menu has an extensive labeling system that makes ordering and substitutions much simpler than without.

And if you have multiple allergies to consider, I love that their menu also includes gluten-free markers and nut warnings!

Neighborhood: George Town

What I Would Eat: Broccolini with Chilli and Almonds, Falafel Curry Bowl, Tacos

Tukka

While exploring the East End of Grand Cayman, my partner and I hopped on over to Tukka East End, an Australian-Caribbean Fusion Restaurant.

Similar to how Kaibo is the place to eat on the North Side, the same goes for Tukka on the East End. While their menu only has Gluten Free item indicators, the restaurant has a large list of choices overall – including a few vegan options.

During our visit, the staff were attentive and accommodating to any questions we had regarding the choices and substitutions we might need to make. And the food was satisfying. The best part of our visit though, may have been the view! The restaurant is located right next to the ocean and has a rather photogenic wooden signpost with directions to some nearer and farther destinations abroad.

Neighborhood: West Bay and East End

What I Ate: Kangaroo Lolli-Pops & Satays, Blackened Mahi Mahi Tacos, Jerk Chicken Tacos, Vegetarian Plant Mince Tacos the vegan version and without cheese

*Not all restaurants listed are 100% dairy-free. Make sure to check ingredients with your servers before ordering.
