8 Grand Cayman Beaches So Beautiful They Look Like Film Sets (2023)
8 Grand Cayman Beaches So Beautiful They Look Like Film Sets
When I first went to Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands, I knew there would be plenty of beautiful beaches. And while every single one was just as beautiful as I’d hoped, there were still a handful that seemed so unreal, I started questioning whether I had been dropped right in the middle of a Hollywood Blockbuster. So if you’re looking for the best beaches on Grand Cayman, here’s my recommendations for the 8 Grand Cayman Beaches So Beautiful They Look Like Film Sets:

Smith Barcadere
A longstanding favorite with photographers and videographers, Smith Barcadere is at the top of the list for its epic rock formations, Caribbean blue waters, proximity to George Town and fully-stocked facilities.
This beach was by far my favorite in all of Cayman. It was low-key reminding me of Vanity Fair‘s famous “Hollywood’s Next Wave” cover with Blake Lively and Kristen Stewart. I especially loved the way the rocks jutted out over the waves, acting very much a photographer’s dream, a sunbather’s “lounge chair” and a diver’s “platform”. And it was a pleasant surprise to visit Smith Barcadere on my first full day on the island and discover that the public bathroom had plenty of paper towels and toilet paper! Luxury, indeed.

Beach Facilities
About half of the beaches I encountered on the Cayman Islands have fully-stocked – clean! – bathrooms and showers. Talk about getting the star treatment!

Barefoot Beach
If you’re a fantasy nerd like me, you’ll love Barefoot Beach. Nestled between the Island’s North Side and East End, Barefoot Beach is a remote off-the-beaten-path spot with lots of rewards for anyone willing to venture to this part of the island.
We knew we arrived when we saw two “Public Beach Access” signs along the Queen’s Highway. But after parking alongside the road, we found that there were actually three, not two, paths leading down to the water. Both of the clearly sign-posted paths took us down to the sand, but being the adventurers we are, we knew we had to try the unmarked path as well. And my goodness, was it the best surprise!
The unmarked pathway led us to an old stone set of stairs that led straight to the water. It reminded me quite a bit of a small Caribbean version of the entrance to Dragonstone in Game of Thrones. Talk about an epic setting!

Seven Mile Beach
The ultimate tourist spot in the Cayman Islands – but, for good reason. 7 Miles of unspoiled, soft sand beach and clear, turquoise water is why Seven Mile Beach earned its spot on this list.
And although it’s a tourist hotspot, we absolutely felt like Old Hollywood film stars on a luxe vacation on this beach. Take advantage of Seven Mile Beach in all its spectacular glory by visiting (1) in the off-season, (2) during a day when a cruise is not coming to port, (3) by enjoying a local hotel’s private section of the beach or (4) by eating at one of the many restaurants located here.

Governor’s Beach
Technically a small section along Seven Mile Beach, Governor’s Beach is located just behind the island’s Governor’s Residence.
Governor’s Beach initially attracted us because of the minimal crowds, but we stayed for the pristine scenery and the most unreal sand! If you ever wanted to find whelks, conchs, winkles and other unique shells, this is the beach to visit.

Rum Point
The spot that immediately had me thinking about Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean was Rum Point, located on the Cayman Island’s North Side.
And while it’s not necessarily the rugged beach that you’d picture the pirates from the films rolling up to, Rum Point is certainly a beauty in its own right.
We visited about a month after Hurricane Ian and although all the usual amenities (shops, bars, etc. surrounding the beach) were closed for reconstruction, the sand, pier and water were completely serene. My only regret from our visit was not filming a “But Why is the Rum Gone?” video!

Starfish Point
The most star-powered beach – and experiences – on this list is Starfish Point.
Here, you’ll share the water with loads of starfish who’ve settled onto the sandy ocean floor. It was absolutely wonderful seeing these wonderful creatures up close. Magical travel moments typically happen by chance and aren’t easily replicated, but if you’re ever looking for a guaranteed magical experience, a visit Starfish Point is a great bet.
Word of Caution
Never bring a starfish above water and if you do decide to touch one, please be gentle, wear mineral sunscreen and avoid handling for an extended period of time. Starfish can only breathe underwater and do not have a hard exoskeleton.

Colliers Beach
Located on the opposite side of the island from the tourist area, Colliers Beach is the ultimate East End paradise.
A tucked-away beach with plenty of tropically-painted wooden pergolas, Colliers made me feel as though I’d hit a jackpot – scoring cabana-priced views and amenities without dropping a dime!? And all without another traveler in-sight! This is the kind of deal that’s so unreal you’d only ever find it on the silver screen.
I’d recommend a visit to Colliers on a “cruise ship day”. It’s far enough on the other side of the island that it provides a perfect beach escape from George Town’s crowds! Just make sure to combine your visit with lunch at Tukka Australian Bar & Grill to round out your East End experience.

Spotts Beach
If another brush with wildlife is what you’re after, Spotts Beach is the place.
Known for wild turtles, Spotts is an amazing snorkeling spot if you’re hoping to swim with the likes of Crush from Finding Nemo. Just be wary that Spotts Beach doesn’t come with the full amenities (stocked bathrooms and showers) that you might find at other beaches in Cayman.
